Winter Emergency Response 2023-24

Environmental Protection Society (EPS) in partnership with Penny Appeal Pakistan (PAPk) implemented the ‘Winter Emergency Project’ in the village Speni Oba Malam Jabba of Tehsil Bahrain, District Swat, KP, Pakistan. The project period was one and a half months from December 16, 2023, to January 31, 2024. The total budget of the project was PKR: 7,107,652/- The project objective was to enhance the safety, protection, and dignity of 200 families vulnerable to severe climatic conditions by supporting winterized kits. The project benefited a total of 1,791 direct beneficiaries, and 2,689 indirect beneficiaries. Environmental Protection Society (EPS) maintained close coordination with district administration right from the design of this project till its completion. A letter of support and facilitation was provided by the district administration. In coordination with the active village organization, community meetings were conducted and the target community was briefed about partner organizations, project objectives, and selection criteria. 200 households were identified and were fulfilling the pre-set beneficiaries’ selection criteria. At first, the list of identified beneficiaries was large, and then in consultation with the target community and village organization, the list was set to 200 vulnerable households. Each winter kit includes; Blankets, Cotton Mattresses (Talai), Shawls for Men and women, hoods for adolescent children and kids, Woollen Caps (Boys & Girls), Gloves for Kids, and Socks for Children and Women.

The distribution of winter kits was made through a formal distribution ceremony. The distribution point was selected based on accessibility to selected beneficiaries. Monitoring visits were made during the identification and post-identification stages.

Beneficiaries were treated as per HAP Standards and Complaint Numbers were displayed on the banner. A list of the winter kits translated into Urdu was also displayed on the banner. A sample winter kit was also displayed. Entry and exit points were kept separate. Beneficiaries were dealt with honor and respect.
