Earlier there were four programme areas of EPS including NRM, HRD, Social and Physical Development and Poverty Alleviation but in a series of meetings, dialogues and workshops it was proposed that EPS should focus on NRM instead of broader approach. The NRM include water bodies (like River Swat and its tributaries), forests and wildlife, agriculture and livestock, and minerals. These aspects also address tourism sector. The Executive Council approved the structural changes in its meeting held on July 6, 2006 after thorough discussion on all aspects of such changes.
