Rehabilitation of Water Supply and Sanitation Project in Shangla (RWSSP)
Objectives
Ø To improve health and hygiene situation of earthquake affectees in six villages of three union councils in Shangla District by the rehabilitation of water supply and sanitation facilities
Ø To organize, train and empower the inhabitants especially women and destitute male of the project area
Ø To sensitize the communities about health and hygiene issues
Project Activities:
Situation Analysis and Villages Selection
Ø Preliminary survey of the villages that fulfill the criteria
Ø Collect secondary data
Ø Develop questioners with focus on water and sanitation
Ø Collect the required data on sample basis
Ø Analyze the dataand develop a report
Ø Organize inception workshop, select the villages and develop yearly plan of operation
Ø Analyze quality of potable water in the selected villages
Ø Prepare Inception Report of the project
Social Organization
Ø Conduct corner meetings with the activists, influential, elected members and other important figures of all the selected six villages
Ø Conduct group meeting in each village and do first dialogue for social organization
Ø Facilitate the formation of male and female community organization in each of the six villages
Ø Conduct regular community meetings
Ø Facilitate the Community Organizations to form Implementation and Monitoring Committees in each village and sign ToPs with the project
Capacity Building and Awareness Raising
Ø Impart trainings in Basic Skills Development, Project Planning and Management, Operation and Maintenance to both the male and female community organizations
Ø Impart trainings in site supervision to the implementation committees and in monitoring and evaluation to the monitoring committees
Ø Develop manual and conduct health and hygiene sessions in all the selected villages both with male and female of the area
Ø Develop promotion materials about the project and health & hygiene in local language and distribute among all the stakeholders
Ø Demonstration of bio-sand filter one each in the six villages
Ø Exposure visits- inter villages and to other such schemes
Ø Experience sharing and knowledge management gathering for the community organizations of the six villages
Rehabilitation of Water Supply Schemes
Ø Identification of the schemes
Ø Design and estimates of each scheme on actual market rates
Ø Implementation of the schemes
Construction of Latrines
Ø Develop criteria for households selection in the selected villages
Ø Prepare design and estimates each for pit, dry and flush latrine along with safe disposal of toilet waste on actual market rates
Ø Construction of latrines and communal septic tanks in case of flush latrines
Construction of Sewage Drains
Ø Develop criteria for village selection
Ø Topographic survey of the area/street most suitable for sewage drain construction
Ø Prepare design and estimates of the drain on actual market rate
Ø Implementation of the scheme
Ø Analyze quality of potable water in the villages intervened
